5 Things That You Should Leave At Home When You Travel

There are a lot of items that you need to pack when you are travelling, so over-packing is a very common problem. Seasoned travellers grow out of over packing because they have a clear idea of what they need and do not need when they go on a trip. However, there are still items that even seasoned travellers pack that are unnecessary. Here are the main items that you should leave at home.

  1. More than 2 Pairs of Shoes

Unless you are going to a wedding or other major event, you should only really pack two pairs of shoes. You should have a comfortable pair of casual shoes and a pair of dress shoes. If you are going to a beach, you may also want to pack sandals, or you could buy a pair when you get to the area.

  1. Curling Irons and Hairdryers

The reality is that most hotels today have hairdryers in their bathrooms or you can ask for one at the main desk. Curling irons and other hair tools are known to break during travel, so you are most likely not going to use them. The same is true with grooming and styling products. Take small size products and limit the amount that you take to what you really need to stay clean.

  1. More Than One Suitcase per Person

This is one of the easiest things on this list to avoid bringing. However, there are a lot of seasoned travellers who still do this. Handling one suitcase and a carry-on is hard, but adding a second suitcase makes moving around a train station or airport harder than it should be. You should be able to fit everything that you need in one suitcase and your carry-on. You should also be able to lift your suitcase without needing assistance. If you cannot, you should empty the suitcase and repack it with only the items that you know you will need.

  1. Pets

This one is hard, but you should leave your pet at home unless you are never returning to the area or it is a service animal. Taking a dog, cat, bird, or other pets with you travelling is cruel to them. They are scared and anxious because they do not know what is going on and you could be risking their lives. Service dogs are trained to handle travel better than other animals, but they have their limits. So, if you can, you should leave your pet at home where they are happy.

  1. Guitar

There are a lot of people who hate guitar players, especially ones who are staying and playing their guitar in a hostel. Guitars are also bulky and take up way too much room on a train or bus. Unless you are playing a gig, leave the guitar at home.

Packing for a trip is never an easy task. There are so many items that we use on a daily basis that it can be hard to leave them at home. However, keeping your bag light will save your back and arms in the long run and make your travels more enjoyable.Budget airlines also have strict rules on baggage allowances, so whilst you might have found great cheap flights, it’s worth considering how much you can take with you.
