Norcross, Georgia, is a small city northeast of Atlanta. It started as a town in October 1870. With its historic roots, it’s home to many old-fashioned houses and festivals that celebrate the rustic beauty and local people of the area, making it an ideal place to visit. Bluesberry Festival
Started by Mike Holley seven years ago, the Bluesberry Festival pulls together blues music with blueberries. Held on Father’s Day weekend in Historic Downtown Norcross, attendees enjoy blues bands from all over while tasting the local restaurant’s special blueberry dishes and drinks. With beer trucks lining the street, there is good spirits and good music for all.
Jazz in the Alley
The free seasonal Jazz in the Alley concerts allow jazz enthusiasts to listen to local jazz musicians showcase their talents. Everyone is invited to bring food and chairs to Betty Mauldin Park to enjoy a picnic and the sunlight while enjoying the soothing sounds of a saxophone, keyboard, and jazz guitar. Usually held in the summer months, the dates may vary, but a warm night of fun is almost guaranteed.
Art Splash
Norcross’ annual art festival is definitely not one to miss. Downtown Norcross is closed off to traffic to accommodate nearly 20,000 tourists, along with the artists and multiple stands. Art Splash is free to attend, and visitors are encouraged to browse and enjoy the varying styles of art such as face painting, photography, metalwork, and jewelry. They even have a kid’s area, live music, and a food court set up, as well as the local eateries and shops. Considering the popularity of this event, booking a hotel early would be beneficial so as not to miss finding accommodations altogether.
Lawless Spirits Tour
In October, the spirits get restless, so the Lionheart Theater Company of Norcross appeases them by putting on the Lawless Spirits Tour. This tour takes visitors back to Historic Norcross. As they walk, attendees experience reenactments from the history of Norcross, like shootouts and murders. Just be sure to wear warm clothes as it is an outside tour.
Holiday Lights Walk
Be sure to bundle up for the Holiday Lights Walk, because it’s held on an early December evening. This guided walk starts in Downtown Norcross at Thrasher Park and follows a route roughly 1.5 miles long, ending back at Thrasher Park. As you walk, guides recite the history of some of the houses and Norcross itself while you enjoy the festive lights and displays. Hot drinks are served to warm everyone, along with s’mores and cookies. It may be cold outside, but the festive spirit will keep all nice and toasty.
Other festivities around Norcross include monthly concerts, theatrical plays, and specialty car shows. These events are held all throughout the year, which means that there is always something going on.
