Loggerheads Sea Turtles:

  1. This is part of wildlife experience found here inside the coral water of the sea, the specie of the turtles are considered endangered since they are few or too rare, the nesting period of the female is between May and September.
  2. The nests are spotted and strictly protected by cellophane substance screen against any damage or predication to eggs.
  3. The hatching usually takes place after sixty days and the female nests between two to three years once hatched the small turtle’s moves to the sea.
  4. Visitors also come here to document about the hatching of the loggerhead Sea Turtles yearly.

Bird Watching:

  1. Bird watching is another activity many visitors do while here, swamps of birds of different species ply the area every morning and even in the evening, many rare doves and Turkeys can be spotted here.
  2. Great horned Owls too can be seen in huge numbers in the forests around, such sight are real thrill to tourists coming to the Island.
  3. Crested woodpeckers can be easily seen around during the day time, redheaded type too can be spotted easily in the day.
  4. Warbles and many songbirds too can be seen hoping from one tree to another during the day time, bird watching offers a great attraction to visitors of the Island.

Unique Horses:

  1. There are several horses freely grazing in the Island, they are feral since their original backgrounds were domesticated horses, this is strange mystery of this Island too worth exploited.
  2. It’s said that they were brought many years ago by the Spanish, so the current ones are feral.
  3. The presence of the horses is a great fodder for visitors who try very much to spot them, hence a real tourism value in the place.

Armadillos:

  1. Is another attraction in the Island which can be seen scurrying inside the bushes, they are not too many in numbers but a breathtaking sight to visitors to the Island.
  2. They migrated from Western part of America in a migration pattern of the last thirty years, they have eventually settled in the Cumberland Island to, offer an attractive view to the tourists.
  3. They drill small holes within the ground as part of their feeding characteristic.

Hogs:

Hogs can also be spotted here though much more destructive as compared to other creatures here, they earnestly compete for food with other large animals like Deer, the National conservancy have hatched a program to reduce their population owing to their destructive nature.

Accommodation:

  1. There are several National conservation camps where visitors to this Island can stay, many visitors prefer to stay in those camp sites since they are ideal and affordable.
  2. A full boarding facilities can be found in those campsites with payment to the NC.
  3. An alternative accommodation facilities can be found at the Greyfields Inn, it’s a more expensive accommodation with restaurants, fully fitted rooms for bed and breakfast just like any other hotel.
  4. Depending on one’s budget visitors can book the Greyfields Inn, or board the Campsites to offer a good boarding as they explore the Island.

There are many things and attractions to explore at this pristine and isolated destination in Georgia, but you need to do esta renewal to be covered.
