The West-Indies Tri-Nation series held the final match in Bridgetown, Barbados on 26th June 2016. The Finalists were West Indies and Australia. It was a day-night One Day International whose stadium was crowded with international audiences with a gist of excitement, thrill and audacity. With the 3 highest run scorers of the match, Australia put forth a target of 271 for West Indies. But it was the day of Australians for the bowler JR Hazlewood won the Australian heart by grabbing 5 important wickets of West Indies. The West Indies batting line turned desultory in hitting runs and the match slipped in the lap of Australia and made Australia the winner of Triangular Tournament by 58 runs.
Australia Innings
- With Australia wins the toss, the decision was to bat first. The first to bat were Khawaja and Finch. Having played 14 balls and scored 14 runs Khawaja became the victim of the deprived shot selection and bestowed a catch to Ramdin on the bowl of Holder.
- While on the other hand, Finch managed to pull 47 runs off 41 balls and was caught by Samuels unfortunately missing the half century. When the Finch dismissed, the score was 69-2. Following 50 runs consumed no wickets but GJ Bailey is batting at 22 off 44 balls got clean bowled by Brathwaite and the scoreboard displayed 120-3.
- Even Smith missed the half century and was grabbed by Samuels on the bowl of Gabriel. Australia had scored 150-3 in 29.3 overs. Next in line were Wade and Maxwell. Soon Maxwell was waved out of the pitch and MN Starc joined the line. At 211 runs, Starc left the field having stumped by Ramdin.
- Next wicket fell on 238. Coulter-Nile gave an easy catch to Bravo on the bowl of Holder. In the meanwhile wade had completed his half century and added runs to the score staying unbeaten till the end. At the end of 50 overs, Australia scored 270 runs with a wicket in hand.
West Indies Inning
271 runs was the target that West Indies had to chase. Fletcher and Charles opened the inning quiet sluggishly and wasted balls unnecessarily. Fletcher made 9 runs off 25 balls and was soon declared out, leaving the score at 49-1 in 10.3 overs. Bravo too played few balls and got out at 6. It was Samuels’s day as he was waived out by the empire at 6 runs.
Ramadin, Pllard and Holder played an average inning, but were too dismissed to pavilion with a not much contribution. The scoreboard screeched 200runs with 8 wickets lost in 43.6 overs. The batting deteriorated and the match seemed to be sliding off their grasp.
In 211 on the scoreboard, Narine gave a catch to smith and signaled defeat. West Indies lost the match making 212 runs with still one wicket in hand. The Australians celebrated enthusiastically on the field for their tournament victory. Marsh was declared Player of the Match and Hazlewood earned the Player of the Series trophy.
